EXPERIMENT PLOTS.
MANAWATU PLANS. It is stated that farmers in the Manawatu intend carrying out a nmnbor of experiments in seeds, soils, and manures this season. Mr. F. S. M'Rne, of Palmcr.Mon, intends to grow t'oyi beans, cowpeas nnd velvet beans for purposes of observation. M-γ. J. Balsillie, oi' Kairanga, will grow an imported variety of American maize, of tho horse-tooth typo, for seed purposes. He also purposes tost ins one or two varieties of peas, and will make variety trials of mangolds. Lucerne and sainfoin will also bo grown as • fodder, with the idea of determininj: tho •suitability of tho soil. Mr. M'Kenzio, at Hokowhitu. is going in for lucerne growing and for mangold variety 'trials. Mr. S. K. Lancaster has decided to experiment with varieties of niaizo for dairy feed; lio will also grow maugolds with a mixture- of farm yard and artificial manures to nfford a comparison with mangolds zroKii the aid of farm yard manure alone. Several varieties of mangolds are to be tested by Mr. A. Buchanan; in addition he is putting in plots of thousand-headed kale, rape, Bh'iiddn, kale, and silver beet, with a view of testing the feeding values of each and tho times at which they mature. Mr. Buchanan will also make trials o£ maize, and possibly Soya beans-
