MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Oar Special CorresuondenU Master-ton, September 19. rhe cold southerly snap which visited Masterton yesterday was continued today, and shows no sign of abating. All outdoor pursuits have been abandoned in the meantime. The final "Ingleside" of tho season, in connection with tho Wairarapa Caledonian Society, takes place on Thursday next The gatherings instituted by this body have been anite a feature of social life during the winter mouths. Several rases of scarlet fever are at present under treatment in Masterton. A case is also reported from Kopuaran^a Several residents of Masterton intend, proceeding to Greytown to-morrow to bo present at the official opening of the gasworks in that township. At tho weekly meeting last night of the Mastorton Parliamentary Debating Society, Mr. ]). Hebaiton occupied the chair.' It was decided to hold a "social" for the wind-up of. the season on October 1!. An impromptu debatu will be a featuro of the.- evening's entertainment. Tin; pupils of Miss Eva Hood, A.T.C L twisted by tlw Hon. G. Jones, M.L.C., gave, an enjoyable concert in Knos Sclioolroom lust evening. The council of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce, in its annual report (to 1« jirawnted at tho annual meeting on Friday next), slates that the general prosprity indicated in tho last report has bren maintained. Trade generally has been good, and the renewed activity in building in tho town can be taken as a i'nir indication of the general prosperity of the community. Mattel's of considerable interest to tho town and district have been before tho chamber during the year.- .
