Mr. W. F. Massey, Leader of iho Opposition, left for Auckland on Saturday. Jla will return to Wellington to-morrow. Mr. Mnssey's journey north, lilto others ho has made lately, was occasioncd by the serious illness "of his wife. Before leaving on Saturday ho received a telegram stating that Mrs. Massey had successfully undergone an operation.
Mr. James Allen, member for Bruce, is at present in tho south. Ho is expected to return to Wellington on Tuesday.
The Hon. D. Buddo, M.P., was a passenger by the Mararca from Lyttelton yesterday.
At Iho Wellington Savage Club's "korero" on Saturday evening, his Excellency the Governor, who officiated as Chief Savage, took the opportunity of expressing, oil behalf of the members, the club's sympathy with Mr. D. Kenny, tho club's musical director, on the loss of his brother, Mr. Maurice A. Kenny, who died on Saturday. Occasion was also taken to wish Mr. George Toogood (late treasurer of the club) farewell on tho ovo of his departure for England.
A Press Association message from London states that Judge Chomley, of Victoria, is recovering from a long illness. He is" in Ireland.
Mr. Oscar ICember, honorary trainer of the Wellington Football Club's junior team, which won tho championship, has been presented with a handsome framed photograph of the team. Photographs havo also boen presented to Mr. D. Weir, tho club captain, and Mr. J. O'Leary, trainer.
Mr. George Toogood, late of the legal firm of Field, Luckie, and Toogood, leaves 011 a trip to England at the end of tho month. He will proceed Home via Canada, leaving Auckland on September 29 by tho Zealandia,
Mr. Maurice Aloysius Kenny, eldest son of Mr. D. J. Kenny, lessee of the White Swan Hotel, Cuba Street, and a brother of Mr. D. Kenny, the well-known musician, died in Wellington on Saturday, after a long illness. The late Mr. Kenny, who was a native of the West Coast, was for some time in the Post and Telegraph Department. Later he becamo lessee of tho hotel at Halswell, near Christchureh, and for tho past two years has been tho proprietor of the hotel at Coalgate Canterbury. The deceased, who was 41 years of age, leaves a widow and two boys, li and. 16 years old respectively. The funeral takes place to-day, subsequent to a .Requiem Mass to be celebrated in St. Mary of the Angels' Church, Boulcott Street. Tho interment will take place at the Karori cemetery.
Mr. H. C. Waterfield, late private reo retary to Lord Plunket, when ho was Governor of New Zealand, is now managing a business in Montreal, Canada.
Tho Scarlet Troubadour Company arrived from Nelson by tho Mapourika on -Saturday.
