OWNED MOTOR AND RACEHORSE.

BUT STILL OWED. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday a man who had an interest in a racehorse and had a motor-car which he ran for hire, was being proceeded against on a judgment summons. ' The debtor said that the racehorse was paying his way lately, that ho was paying so much a month off the motcr-ear, and that ho was under certain obligations respecting other property ho had.

"If a man is going in for a business, and a motor-car, and a racehorse—," began Dr. M'Arthur, S.M. Counsel for the debtor interjected that the motor-car was for purposes of the man's business, and that tho other property was not ."clear."

His Worship: Well, then, I'm not going to make this Court a place for settling up this kind of thing. i Counsel made another explanation. His Worship: I will not havo every blooming bankrupt in tho country coming here, and asking for this thing. Counsel: Debtor docs not want that.

His Worship: He wants mo to let him go off, and make no order. It's a very different thing when a man earning £l to £2 10s, comes here, but here's a man with a motor-car, an interest in a racehorse, and property. Counsel: The man 'cannot disposo of his property. His Worship replied that, in this case, ho took the view which he expressed at tho Hutt the other day when a man having a few thousand pounds worth of property was before him. His Worship had said: "You must get rid of your property." Counsel: It is very hard to get rid of property just now. ■ His Worship: I say I am not going to make this a place to settle up business which should, go before the Bankruptcy Court.

Some suggestion as to making arrangements was then introduced, and the case was adjourned for a month.
