The charter of tho University of St. Andrew's was granted in Hll by Bishop Wardlaw, who attracted ♦ho most learned men in Scotland -is professors, nnd bulls were obtained from the Pope in 1113 confirming tho charter and ronstifutiiis it a studium gene-rale or university.'There are at present about COO students in attendance. Tho University includes the College of St. Ma-y (theological) and the United Colleges of SS. Snlvator and Leonard, at St. Andrews, and Hie University College at Dundoe. As to the dates of founding of the Universities. Oxford appears to have grown up in tho twelfth century, nnd Cambridge about the middle of the thirteenth conjrnry. Edinburgh University was founded in 15b2, AHerdec.i University in 1404, Glasgow University in 1451, and Dublin University in 1591.
