THE FRUIT REGULATIONS.
AUSTRALIAN ACTIQN. In view of the representations which have been made from various sources with regard to the proposal of the New Zealand Government to include in, the newfruit regulations a provision that 10 per cent, of tho .fruit intended for shipment shall be examined under Government supervision, before shipment,, the' Now South Wale's Department of Agriculture has, says the "Sydney Herald," approached the New Zealand authorities in the matter, and urged that'this provision be omitted from tho proposed regulations. A reply has, however, been received from New Zealand to the effect that the request cannot be granted at present, and the-hopo is expressed that the regulation will be given a fair trial. It is intimated that if it is found that consignments forwarded show a small percentage of infection, negotiations may bo renewed with a view to having tho regulation eliminated. , Up to the present no official intimation has been received by tho Department of Agriculture that the new regulations have been put. into operation, nor havo anv copies been received. .At the.last meeting of tho New South Wales Fruitgrowers' Union it was decided to interview the Minister for Agriculture in regard to tho regulations.
