NEW STAR PICTURES.

A FINE HOUSE OF ENTERTAINMENT. Conveniently situated at the busiest point in Newtown, within a few yards of the junction of Rintoul and Itevans Streets, and right opposite the Newtown State School, the new Star Theatre, to bo opened to-morrow evening, provides a really "no houso of entertainment for Wei. a South. The Star Theatre presents .! uJtt. frontage to Itevans Streetwide enough to provide a good central entrance, two capacious shops, and a tontoot right-of-way on the southern side— and has a depth of lOOi't. From the entrance hall there opens off the main doors to the auditorium in the centre, the concrete stairway leading to tho gallery, and tho ticket-offices. The gallery, or dresscircle, runs round three sides of tho auditorium, and is provided with iron chairs with wooden tip-up scats. An improvement in the seating accommodation has been effected by providing rather more room between the rows than is usually the case. The same kind of seats are provided on the ground floor—the, three blocks being divided by two wide aisles. The lloor is gently "raked" in order to improve the lino of vision from every row right to the back wall of tho theatre. The theatre seats 1000-people, but at a pinch could probably aconunodato another hundred. There is a commodious orchestral well, which could, if necessary, accommodate u full orchestra, and tho screen erected at the back of the stage is full-sized, aud, owing to its position, the pictures can be viewed with as good ell'cct from the front row as from any other position in the theatre. Tho interior of the theatre is finished in white plaster, with' a facing of Keen's Cement, tho ceiling is lofty, the theatre well ventilated, and there are ample exits in the front, the side right-of-way, and the back of the premises. ' The front is finished in red brick, with cement facings, with a verandah sheltering the full width of the sidewalk iu front of the theatre. Tho new Star Theatre was erected from the plans of Mr. James Bonnie by Messrs. Michael Frain and Son, and . tho result is a very substantial and commodious theatre, which is practically fireproof. The now theatro is to bo opensd on Thursday evening , when an absolutely new programme of pictures will be presented. Tho management has made an arrangement to present new and thoroughly up-to-dato programmes on every occasion.
