HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tho bi-monthly meeting of the Hutt Borough Council was hold last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Sir. ii. 1\ Bunny), and Councillors ltoots, Cloudon, Stevenson, Ball, Hobbs, Knight, and Hodgins. Tho Valuer-General advised the authorisation of further amendments to the current valuation roll. The Ilutt liivcr Board, in reply, consented that access to Messrs. Gosso and Hurt's land should bo provided near Moiling bridge, subject to tho arrangements being embodied in an agreement In bo drawn up by tho board's solicitor. It was resolved that such an agreement bo drawn up. , 51r. I'. Sand, in acknowledging tho recoipt of notico of intention to construct a public drain through his land, pointed out that ho had referred tho matter to his solicitor, to submit a written objection to tho proposed work in accordance with tho Act. Tho engineer explained that it would bo quite impossible to avoid coming into contact with Mr. Hand's property.—lt was decided that tho clerk be instructed to advise Mr. Hand that no posjibio harm could bo done to his land during tho construction of this drain. The.engineer reported that good progress was being made with the eastern drainage, although some delay had been caused through encountering springs of water in Knight's Road. Not much crushing-of metal had been done, but several loads had been distributed on the Main lioad. Tho road to Messrs. Gossc's and Burt's land had now been formed. Tho depression in Woburn Road had been attended to. Gorso and briar had been removed from tho council's section on tho Western Ilutt Road. Two connections had been made with tho gas main, and nilio with tho water mains, and .'l2l permits under tho drainage and sanitary bjvhws had been issued to date. Tho following recommendations by tho "Works Committee were adopted That tho water be laid on to the premises of Messrs. Dwau Brothers, Wakefield Street, OS applied for. A further complaint baying been received, the ranger bad been instructed to take proceedings against tho owner of certain horses. That a reply be sent to Iho Education Board to the effect that tho council does not see its way to do certain work asked for, as tho drain was not a permanent water-course, and consequently was not a public drain. That Mr. Troadwell bo authorised to renew tho olTcr to pay ,£25 in full satisfaction of Miss Pyo's claim, including costs. Mr. Gardner was granted one month's leave' of absence, in order to inspect a snpply of 6000 pipes in Auckland now being got ready for shipment to tho Hutt lor drainage pnrposes.
