Their Excellencies Lord, and Lady Islington have notified their intention of being present at Mr. Leonard Borwick's recital on Thursday next. Tho Hon. G. Fowlds left for Palrnerston North on Saturday with the intention of going on lo Auckland to-day. He is expected back in Wellington ou Friday next. Tho Mayor (Mr. Wilford, M.P.) has returned to town. Mr. George Shand was tho recipient of a handsome case of table cutlery from his fellow officers of tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr. Russell, the 'Chief Inspector of the company, in a'few wcll-ehoseu remarks, made tho presentation. Mr. Johnson, the Inspector,, also voiced the good wishes of the staff towards Mr. Shand; and the latter suitably responded. Aftor a short holiday trip through Hnwke's Bay and the Wairarapa, Mr. Fowler, Principal of tho Nelson Boys' College, returned to Nelson through Wellington on Saturday, in anticipation of tho opening of the next college term on Thursday. Mr. W. D. S. Macdonald, M.P. for Bay of Plenty, and Government North Island Whip, who had been an inmate of a'private hospital since last Tuesday week, is now about again. Ho looked in at Parliament House on Saturday and received many congratulations on his quick recovery. He expects to be in his place when tho House resumes to-morrow. Captain G. S. Lindeman, R.N., is about to retire from tho position of Stripping Master of 'Sydney. He will probably be succeeded by Captain Mason, lato of tho Sobraon. Tho funeral of Mr. Arthur B. Plimmcr, late manager of the National Insurance Co. at Perth (W.A.) and second son of Mr. John A. Plimmcr, of Wellington, took place on Saturday afternoon. The funeral left Khnndnllnk shortly after 2 p.m.. and proceeded to Wellington by road, tho. interment taking place at the Bolton Street Cemetery. The services in (lie church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. 10. W. M'Connel, of Khandallah. The chief mourners were Messrs. J. A. Plimmer, W. R. Plimmer (brothers), C. Plimmer (uncle), and IT. Plimmer (cousin), and Mr. Townsend (brotlier-iu-Liw). Among those present were Messrs. J. Mallard (Wellington manager for the National Insuranco Co.), ,T. G. Harknrss, W. M. Hannay, A. R. Meek. Geo. MacMorran, and representatives of the Onslow Borough Council and Wellington College Old Boys' Association. Among the wreaths wore tributes from the Perth and head office staffs of the National Insuranco Company.
