(From Our Srieclal CorrcsDonde.nl.) Palmcrston North, September 9. A most successful Scotch social was held in the Municipal Hall last night, in aid of the High School funds. There was a large attendance—over a hundred couples—and the dancing was interspersed with vocal items and various fancy dance;., the entertainment proving most enjoyable. ~ At the adjourned inquest on the young man Frank Healey. who was killed at Jarvcs's flaxmill at Rongotea on Saturday last, through l>eing caught in the belting, a verdict of death by misadventure was returned. It is reported that a battery of field artillery will shortly be stationed in Palmcrston. A considerable area of flax country is on fire in the Linton district The high winds prevailing have dried things up. and danger from fires is feared by the millers. A large gang of men is engaged endeavouring to check tin; spread of the fire.
