BIRTHDAY BAGS.
A novel idea for raising money wa? adopted in connection with the anniversary .of the Goldsmith Sheet Methodist Church (writes the Goulburn correspondent of the "Sydney-Morning Herald"). Birthday bags had been stnt to members of the congregation, with the suggestion that a coin bo placed in the for each year of the recipient's life. Tho bags wcro collected at the anniversary meeting, and the' responso proved very satisfactory. No fewer than 2260 coins were received, and the total they represented was .£45 12s. sd. A member of. the congregation, whoso birthday synchronised with that of the church, gave' a. donation to mako the amount an evon 'i'so. The Rev. E. J. Rodd, who preached the.anniversary (Simons, congratulated tho chairman on hitting upon such an idea, when all the means of money-making were done to death, and was informed 1 that tho Ladies'Guild were entitled to tho credit for the innovation. It should bo. added that the coins wero counted by tho treasurer, and it was promised that ho would not tell how many were in a bag, so that thofo who were curious about the ages of others would obtain-no satisfaction., ......
