WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Tho fortnightly meeting of the Wolling* ton City Council was held last evening, (hero being present: Councillors J. Smith (Acting-Mayor), F. Cohen, G. Frost, J. Goilber, J. Trevor, A. If. Atkinson, J. E. Fitr.gerald, L. M'Kenzie, W. 11. I'. Barber, J. Fuller, jr., K. Fletcher, D. M'Laron, M.P., A. H. Hindmarsh, G. Shirtolill'e, and I)r. Cameron. Tho drivers of scavenging carts, to the number of five, were granted nnincrease of Gd. per day. Their rate was Ss. -Id. per day, and on Sundays they receive Gs. for four hours' work, commencing at midnight, in connection with street cleansing. This was overtime rate. It \vas resolved that a donation of £& bo granted to the. Y.M.CA. funds in connection with their recent concert in the Town nail; that (he lender of Messrs. Keid and licid for the motor tower wagon required for tho Tramways Department bo accepted, such lender being the lowest submitted; that llio ratepayers who. petitioned the council to remedy the nuisance at Hill Tcrraco and Hay .Street, Oricnial Bay, caused by water (lowing from, tho Town Belt, bo informed that tho council will be prepared to mako (he necessary provision for storm-water .drainage, provided they pay half the cost of tho work, such half cost being estimated at .£37 10s., as recommended by the city engineer; that a subsidy of .C 25 be granted to (he Milehclltowii School Committee towards the improvement of their school recreation ground on tho Town Belt, tho work to be supervised by the city engineer. , Notices are to'be served on the owners aiul occupiers of tho following premises to carry out repairs, etc., recommended by tho'Department of Public, Health:~ Davis Street, 21) Tarnnaln Street, 22 Manners Street, 5 St. Mary Street, 1!) Tory Street. 45 Coin-fenny Place, 12 Selwyr Tcrraco, 142 Lambtou Quay, and 150 Lambton Quay. Condemnation notices also are to bo served with respect to the following:— Three temporary structures at rear of No. 110 I.ambton Quay, temporary structures at rear of 150 Lanibton Quay, temporary structures at rear of 112 Lambton Ouay. sheds and stable, No. 31 l.omo Street, shed at Quin Street, slablos at Arc Street, and stables, IGS Kintoul Street.
