(Before Mr. W. G. Uiddell, S.M.) ; ABOUT AN ADVERTISEMENT! Ambrose John Hum, hotel proprietor, Fcilding, proceeded against (ho Commercial Restaurant Co., Ltd., Christchurch, for £3 35., and costs for half-page of defendant's advertisement in the Christchurch issue of tho Sheffield Choir f-ou-vonir. Mr. Arnold represented the plaintiff, and Mr. M'Graththe defendant. His Worship nonsuited plaintiff, and said that he (plaintiff) had failed to establish that the contract between the, parties had been carried out.

WHO MUST PAY? Albert Simmons, expressman, Newtown, sued "Archio" M'Kay, labourer, ,'frcntham, for £i 165., for carriage of furniture. Plaintiff conducted his case, and Mr. Fair appeared for defendant. After .hearing evidence, his Worship stated that the wrong 'person had been proceeded against. He considered that £2 10s. was due to Simmons. Plaintiff was required to pay 10s. (id., half solicitor's fee.

POLICE CASES. Minnie Brown, who was deemed to be an idle and disorderly person having insufficient lawful means of support, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. She is to go lo the Salvation Army Home for six months.

Margaret Webster was convicted and fined 105. for insobriety. Henry Richard Balding, who had been found helplessly drunk in Manners Street, was remanded till September 8 for sentence.

Eobert Dixon was convicted of being drunk on the King's Wharf, and was fined £2 for using certain language on the steamer Tainui, and fined £1 for assaulting Robort Galway. Archibald West and Alfred William Russell were charged with using threatening behaviour in Leeds Street, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. West pleaded guilty, and Russell not guilty. The former was fined £2, and the latter was discharged. Ernest Richard Wilson, an articled seaman on the Euahine, was accused' of unlawful desertion. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.

Charles. Homer disputed an allegation that he was an idle and disorderly person without sufficient lawful means of support. He was, however, convicted, and ordered'to appear for sentonee when called upon, and he is to go to tho Ohiro Home for six months.
