DAYLF-Y MEMORIAL, Applications from candidates for th» Alf liaylcy Memorial Scholarship close ou September 13 next The conditions of the Scholarship are as follow:— Tlio scholarship shall bo awarded annually and shall be open lo all boys resident ' iu the Tn.Kinaki provincial district under the ago-of fifteen years ou the first day of December in the year in which the examination is to lie held. Throughout tlio year of competition tlio candidate must hnvo resided in tho Taranaki provitico and must have been under regular instruction (as defined by tho Education Act, 100S) at fonio public or private school therein. The examination shall bo that set out for the junior .national scholarship. Iho subjects shall be English (300 marks), arithmetic (200 marks), geography 100 ■ marks), general kuowledgo (100 marks), drawing (100 marks), total SIO marks, I\o poholarship shall be awarded to any candidate who fails to obtain at lcw-t '10 per centum in tho aggregate of marks assigned for this examination. An athletic competition open to nil bova who have been nominated for tho Alf. Bavloy Scholarship will Iμ hold at atimo and place appointed by the Taranalu Rugby Union and governed by ofiicials appointed by them. Tho following a.ro (lie events and standards :-10flyds (standard Msec), i-mile (GGsec.), high jump (4ft.), long jump (13ft.), drop-kick (-15 yds.), punt (4flyds.). place-kick (3 anglus). No scholarship shall be awarded to any candidate who fail" to secure SO marks in tho athletic competition. The sports will be held every year on the last Thursday in October. Thi: scholarship shall be of tho value of ,£lO per annum, tumble for two years at a. high school or district high school in New Zealand, and will bo rcoogniwl by tlio Minister for Education as a qiioli' Ileal ion for a junior free place, subject to Hit) conditions regulating Ireo places, nnd the tenure of the scholarship shall bo subject to like renditions. Tho scholarship money shall bo paid in instalments nt the end'of each quarter or term by tho Tnranaki Rugby Union. Tho winner of the scholarship will bo presented by the Tarauakl liugby Union with a cold' medaU
