FRENCH FOOD RIOTS.
HEAVY FORCES OF TROOPS. MEAT IMPORTATION URGED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Eec. September i, 11.15 p.m.) Paris, September i. Emissaries of tho General Confederation of Labour participated in the worst of tho outrages at St. Quontin. . .Six regiments have been quartered there, including the cuirassiere, who wero at .Eperaay during tho champagne riots, and chasseurs from Eouon, and detachments of artillery. The situation was controlled by th« mayors of several neighbouring towns buying bullceks, fond slaughtering and selling them at a reasonable price. Evidence before a Commission of Inquiry shows 'that tho rapidly-increasing exportation of cattle is largely responsible for dear meat. The consumers advocate the unrestricted importation of colonial meat, and suggest the free importation of a limited number of cattle from Nigeria and Madagascar. Fresh rioting has occurred at Eoubaix, Brest, Chalon-Sur-Saone, and Le Creusot. The Prime Minister, M. Caillaux, has ordered more stringent measures against professional agitators who may be discovered in the disturbed areas.
