TAINUI LEAVES lIOBART. Advico received by the local agents for the Shaw, SaviU and Albion Company iuitiraates that It.M.S. Tainui left Hoba-rt, in continuation of her voyago from London for Wellington, at 12.30 p.m. on Friday.' Tho liner is expected to show up hero tomorrow afternoon. She borthr, at the King's Wharf to land passcjigers and discharge cargo.
CAPE BRETON'S VOYAGE. An arrival in port on Saturday afternoon was the Vacuum Oil Company's chartered steamer Oiipo Breton, from New York, via, southern porta. On tho voyago fine to moderate weather prevailed until after leaving Durban on August Z2. The steamer then experienced the full force "of the wintry galea that liowl through the Southern Occan at this time of the year. Big waves tumbled aboard, with that well-known suddenness which jars a. vessel from truck to keelson. Numerous minor damages occurred, these including the smashing in ot dcck-houso t'oors, and a straining of tho deck-houues the.m«dves. But tho vessel eventually
battled through without serious injury, and reached New Zealand as stated. Upr.n completion of part discharge here the Cape Breton proceeds to Auckland.
MISIIANM'S ROUGH HANDLING, During her across the Tusmnn Sea- from Newcastle. I lie steamer ttrisb.inc, which arrived at Lytlolton on Thursday, had a. roush handliup. Nine and a half days were occupied on the journey, and, after the Aral day out, the steamer met with slroni; easterly and south-east, cales and hijrh r>ras al! tlu» way. The vessel labourwl heavily, and was continually shipping water, .md had t-o be hove-to pcveral times. On Thursday mornine, AukusS 24, the cook, standing outside the galley, was knocked down by a heavy sea. which came aboard, lie sustained a broken rib and a few bruises, but fortunately escaped other injury. Jle was attended by Dr. Upham 011 arrival. On Friday, August 25. the weather was particularly bad, and the ga-les an<J high seas continued until the New Zealand coast was reached. Cape Farewell was passed at 1.40 a.m. on Wednesday, and fine weather was experienced thence till arrival at Lyttelton.
Mr. A. 31. Davey, late chtof officer of the Monowai, went ashore at Dunedin. -and mbsenue-ntly joined the Kini as captain. Mr. M'Kenzio look his p l ace as far as Lyttelton. where he went ashore for orders. Mr. M'Kcnzio's place was then filled by Mr. H. 8. Whyhorn. late of the Hauroto. Mr. Hill signed on the Hauroto as chief officer at Lyttelton. Owing to the present state of the Patea bar both the Mana and Aorere have been detained inside for four days. The Kapuni, which arrived *at Wellington from VTaPgauui yesterday morning, could not. cross in ward 9 on Saturday, and consequently came on to here. Gap tain Watson, late of tho Kini, arrived by the Maori yesterday, aud will take charge of the Pateeua to-day. Captain Davy, late ehicf officer of the Monowai, is now acting-master of the Kini. On Friday afternoon the Anchor Line's steamer Waverley arrived at Greymouth from Wellington. Owing to ber light draught, she was able to enter the port when larger vessels could not manage to cross. At low tide there i? at present very little water on the Grey bar. Latest charters include tliat of the barquo Louisa Craig, 683 tons. She is to take a cargo of coal from Newcastle to Auckland. Owing to illness, Mr. Gillon, purser of the Maheno. returned to Sydney last week. Mr. Thompson, late chief officer of the Koromiko. has joined the Kaiapci as act-ing-master. About September 12 the Union Company's steamer Whangape is expected to leave Bupbury for the Bluff, Dunedin. and Auckland;. She is coining via Hobart. Upon completion of discharge of her rargo of hardwood and manures at Lyttelton. the st.oame»r Inga will load produce for Greymouth. At the latter port phc fills up with timber for Sydney. Some 200 travelled to Vancouver by ft.M.S. Makura, which left Auckland on Friday afterno-*i. Of the number about 115 joined the vested at Auckland.
