MINIMUM WAGE,
,THE SOUTH WALES MINERS. A WARNING. By Telegraph—Pitess Association—Copyright (Rec. September 3, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 2. Tho Mining Association has praotically agreed to meet the representatives of tho Miners' Federation to discuss the question of a minimum Yrago for working in abnormal places. It is expected that tho mooting will tako place prior to the annual conference of miners in October. "Mabon" (Mr. William Abraham, M.P.) warned tho South Wales miners that if they struck ho would cut off tho Welsh coalfields from the policy of tho Miners' Federation for common action to securo a minimum wage. He deprecated following tho example of tho railway men, whoso recent strike ho characterised as a magnificent collapse. Tho leaders wero wise in surrendering, but were utterly unwise in pretending that they had secured the victory.
STRIKE OF FLAX SPINNERS. PROPOSAL TO WORK SHORT TIME. (Rec. September 3, 5.5 p.m.) Brussels, September 2. Two thousand five hundred flax spinners havo struck owing to the millowners proposing to work short time.
RAILWAY DISPUTE. THE HARRIMAN LINES. (Rec. September 3, 5.5 p.m.) New York, September 2. Tho meetings between Mr. Kruttschmitt,' general manager of the Harriman railway lines, and tho Employees' Federation, relative to full recognition of the union, have been fruitless, but it is still hoped that tho strike may bo averted.
IN THE EVENT OF STRIKES. STRATEGIC POINTS IN LONDON. London, September 1. The Homo Office hns instructed ten officers of the Staff College to make a comprehensive survey of London to oompilo lists of tho food and coal depots and mark strategic points for tho maintenance of traffic routes in tho event of strikes.
POSITION AT LITHGOW. . TRADE AT A STANDSTILL. Sydney, September 2. Trado at Lithgow is at a standstill. Meetings of strikers adopted resolutions pledging their support to tho Defence Committoo in its protest against what is said to be the tyranny of the ironmaster. Tho meetings also promised to assist in maintaining law and Promises of financial support for the strikers havo been received from many quarters. (Rec. September 4, 0.45 a.m.) Sydney, September, 3. The position at Lithgow is quiot. Polico reports state that' > they did not draw their batons in dispersing the crowd. Tho explosion of dynamite only cracked a pane of glass.
