Palmcrston, September 3. .A meeting of the Liberal party, repreu senting tho parly in different portions of tho Manawatu electorate (as newly constituted), was convened at the ins'mice of Mr. John SUvons, laio M.P, for Manawatu, and earlier for Rangilikei. Tho meeting was held at Marlon yesterday, Mr. Edward Read presiding. Tho object was to select a candidate in llio Liberal interest for tlie forthcoming election. Mr. John Stevens, who contested watu, and Mr. William Meklrum, of llunterville, who contested llio Rangitikei by-election, wero proposed. Mr. Stevens, while expressing every intention to assist at the election, asked tho meeting to select Mr. Meldrum. This was dono, with hearty appreciation of Mr. Sievotis'a action and services to tho Liberal causo.
