COMPETITIONS.
Tho time is now drawing near when entries close for tho forthcoming competitions, namely, September 25. The competitions open ill tho Town Hall on October 25, and last for ten days. The secretary, Jlr. James Dykes, reports that entries "are being received from all parts of the Dominion. Special prizes to tho value of X2BO havo been given by various firms in Wellington, and tho society supplement this by .£220, making the total prize list .£3OO. Included in the prize list is an .£Bl upright grand Ilechstein piano, presented by the British and Continental Piano Co.. for the winner of the solo pianist recital contest. Text books and entry forms can bo obtained free of charge on application to the secretary at his office, 119 reatherston Street,
