Mr. Brodio will stand as an Independent. Liberal, reserving to himself independence 011 n no-co.nfidenco motion. Mr. Brodio makes the fifth candidate announced for tho Wellington East scat. Mr. 11. J. Low, of tho Laud and Survey Office, Wellington, who has been transferred to New Plymouth, after thirty years' service in AA'elliiigton, was yesterday the recipient from his colleagues of an address and a dispatch case. Tho Commissioner (Mr. Mackenzie) made the presentation, and referred to the long and faithful service Mr. Low had given in Wellington, and to tho goodwill and esteem in which he was held by his colleagues. At New Plymouth Mr. Low will fill tho position of chief draughtsman. Lieutenant Colonel Hawkins, Officer Commanding the Canterbury District, was a visitor' to tho Jlouse of Representatives yesterday. The death occurred at Napier yesterday of Mr. Walter Henry Pearson, aged 76.' Deceased came to New Zealand in 1555, and two years later joined tho Land and Survey Department, with which he was connected till 1884, when lie retired on a pension. Angland, who is announced as an Independent candidate lor Timaru, has been a member of the Harbour Board, and is now on the Borough Council — Press Association. Mr. T. K. Cirigson, A.M.1.C.E., who lias acted as assistant engineer to the Auckland Drainage Board sinco tho drainage scheme was started, is leaving Auckland shortly for A 7 ietoria. He has received an important appointment under the Metropolitan Board of AYorks in connection with the new water supply scheme tor Melbourne, and lie will enter on Ins duties by the middle of next month. The Bcv. A\ T . Day, who has been for a number of years 'pastor of tho Mount Eden Baptist Church, Auckland, has dofinitely decided to resign tho charge. Mr. Charles Hanson, manager of tho Northern Steamship Company, is a visitor to AVellington.
