M. llornsby, an inquest was held on tho body of tho man Michael Byrne, found drowned in a creek at Te Wharuu. The evidence showed that deceased had been worried oyer money matters. lie also suffered from insomnia. The medical evidence showed that decen-ed died from asphyxiation, caused by drowning. A verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned. INVESTIGATING. Te Kiliti, August 30. The death of a young man named —. Dunedin, August 30. i An accident occurred on the Leitli Valley j?oad, three or four miles from I)un- ' odin. this afternoon, whereby Mrs. C. B. M. Branson, licensee of Branson's Hotel, was killed and her son severely injured. Tho two had been for a drive, and while returning tho son got out to get some flax, leaving t' e reins with his mother. While lie was out of the trap the horse bolted, and though lie managed to chamber over the back of the trap, the horse ran over tho edge of a bank into the creek Mrs. Brtmson lind her neck broken, and was dead when taken to' the hospital. The son is uoconscious, but is expected to recover. SUICIDE AT TE KUITI. Te Kuiti, August 31. Harold Edmunds, 22 years of age, committed suicide on Hunt's farm, three miles out of Tc Kuiti, at two o'clock yesterday morning. Evidence at the inquest showed that deceased had sliowji signs of being overy despondent. The verdict was that death resulted from a self-inflicted wound, deceased being of unsound mind. FALL FROM A LOFT. Gisborne, August 31. John Chisholm, aged 40. died from injuries receivtd through a fall from a loft in stables, where he was living. An inquest was deemed unnecessary.

At 1 o'clock this afternoon Mr. John Edmond Hay. 76 years of age, boarded a tramcar at Cargill's corner, and just as the car readied the shed points he leaned over towards his wife, who was sitting beside him, and suddenly expired.
