At Moutoa last night a most enjoyabla social gathering was hold to bid iarowcll to three pioneer residents—Mrs. Edwards, sen. (niother'of Mr. 1(. Edwards, of Pa 1merston Nbrth), and Mr. and Mrs. J. A, Smith. All three arc very uld identities, having been among the original holders of Moutoa land when it was taken over by tlio Government from the Maoris. Tlio settlers were present in largo numbers' last evening, and a most enjoyable timo' was spent. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were presented with a liaiidsoino polished marble cloclc, and Mrs. Edwards was liuulo the recipient of a fine armchair. Mr. Arthur Emvards, who is also leaving Moutoa with his mother, was handed a silver-mounted pipe. Mr. Alex. Saunders made the presentations, and Mr. ltobcrt Edwards replied on behalf of his mother. Tlio local branch of tjie Wellington Acclimatisation Society decided l'f.st night to ask the society to provide the holding ponds which have l>ecii promised for Pal. mcrslbn. Mr. J. Mortenson reported that he had liberated during August over a thousand fry in various streams in this district, and that there were still another thousand fry in the fountain in the Square.
