9 AST INSULTING BROOKLYN BOT. The fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held in the secretary's office, last evening, Mr. J. S. Jamieson presiding. It was decided to form a deputation and , wait upon Sir John Findlny, and ask him if he intended to introduce legislation this session for the- prevention of cruelty. A letter -ivas received from a resident of Island Bay reporting a certain case of cruelty to a horse. Tho inspector stated that ho had taken tho matter up, but tho driver of tho horse, when interviewed, had, .however, denied all knowledge of tho circumstances embodied in tho allegation. Tho inspector reported that "he had examined several horses during the, last two weeks, and had ordered the owners to have them attended by a veterinary surgeon. On August 17 he had seen a youth riding an old decrepit horse. Hβ had directed tho bc-y to dismount, and had taken the horse to a blacksmith's shop, while he went to get a to inspect the animal's condition. When they returned, however, the horse was gone. He interviewed tho boy's father, who lives at Brooklyn, and who stated that the horse was purchased about three months ago for something like ,£3. Ho had since learned that the animal had been destroyed. Tho inspector further remarked that tho boy had abused and insulted him grossly, and had refused to dismount when asked to do so. It was eventually decided to take legal proceedings against tho boy. Several ether case* of alleged cruelty and neglect were imported, ami, in . two instances, tho animals were destroyed.
