MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr. W. G. Kiddcll, S.M.) WHAT'S IN A NAME? A young man appeared on remand from Christchurch, and was charged with obtaining Is. Od. from Jane Brown at Karaka Bay, Wellington, and 2s. 6d. from Mrs.' C. B. Bowie, at Karaka Bay, both by means of false pretences. Mr. Fitzgibbou appeared for the defendant, and said that the man's name was Findlay, ■, Detective "This is the man charged in the information. It is hard to say at present what his real name is." .Mr. Fitzgibbon: "He is not Findlay." Detective Broberg said that if the man was released on this point he would immediately have him rearrestcd. Mr. Fitzgibbon: "I will toll you what hia real name is. It's Tom Herbert Selwoad." Tho information was then amended in respect of tho name. Detective- Broberg then said that the man had been arrested in Christchurch, and bailed to appear at Wellington. As he had not had time to have tho case completed, ho asked for a remand. Mr. Fitzgibbon said that the defendant had been charged at Christchurch on six informations. Five were dismissed, and on the other he was remanded to Wellington. The further remand was granted, INEBRIATION. Caroline Moir.was fined 10s. for having been found drunk. DEBT CASES. (Before Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.) On a judgment summons, Joseph Bull was ordered to pay £3 is. to the To Aro Housa Drapery Company by September 12, in default seven days' imprisonment. William and Emily M. Lingard claimed from E. 15. Sweeney a sum of £25, wliicL amount defendant was ordered to.pay by September H, in default H days' imprisonment.
