ESPIONAGE.
THE PLYMOUTH ARREST. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, August 28. Tho hearing of the charge of espionage against Max Schultz, a German, is proceeding at Plymouth. Tho evidence so far given goes to show that Schultz made local friendships among yachting people, and had endeavoured to ascertain hou- far British naval circles considered Britain's support of France on the Moroccan question was earnest. He had also inquired regarding British naval movements. Tho questions had been answered, after consultation with the Authorities, for tho purpose of a prosecution, and the prisoner had forwarded, the information given to tho Gorman Government. "COOKED" INFORMATION SUPPLIED. (Rec. August 29, 9.45 p.m.) London, August 29. The evidence in tho c&pionago easo disclosed that Schultz gavo two men questions seeking information in connection with the Moroccan situation and tho strength of the British Navy at tho end of Julv.
'She men sought polico advice and "cooked" the answers supplied to Schultz, for which they received ,€llO. A number of letters were produced. Onestated information should be obtained from officers on active service. In the last letter Schultz complained that tho information was worthless, and terminated the arrangement. ENGLISH OFFICER ON TRIAL. Berlin, August 28. Mr. Bertrand Stewart, tho English yeomanry officer, recently arrested .it Bremen on suspicion of espionage, has been ordered to undergo trial at Leipzig.
