COLLEGE MATCH. Members' of the Auckland Grammar School fifteen have reason to be pleased with tho success of their tour to the Empire city. Last Saturday they defeated Nelson College and yesterday they fixed the name ul' St. Patrick's College t'o their banner and thus avenged the defeat which they received at Auckland some years ago from St. Patrick's brilliant touring loam. The ground was in perfect order, but the high southerly wind spoiled the play. St. Patrick's College won tho toss and defended tho southern goal. They at once attacked, but lost many chances through failure to pass out the ball. At length, however, Beaton got the ball and eluding several men, passed to Blako in a nice position and enabled the latter to score a good try. M'Carlhy converted with a good kick. St. Patrick's, 5; Auckland Grammar School, 0. Auckland then took a hand at attacking, but tho wind and the hard kicking of tho Bluen drove them back. Off-side play by Fuller then gave Auckland relief, but St. Patrick's camo again and Parsons nearly scored, Ho was, however, well held up and only a scrum resulted. The ball then camo out to Brownlie who transferred (6 M'Carthy and the latter just missed scoring. Auckland cleared their line, but off-side play gave M'Carthy another kick which ho just failed to turn to account, the ball going over the post. Tho spell ended with the score unaltered. On resuming Grammar School attacked, but they met a good defence, St. Patrick's College essayed a passing bout, but Sullivan tried to pass tho ball over tho heads of four Aucklanders to Burns. The Auckland lads intercepted and carried play into touch near the twenty-five. Then the ball came to their backs and a. rush commenced. Fisher scored. St. Patrick's attacked, but their play lacked tho necessary finish and Auckland soon turned defence into a • counter-move. Campion, St. Patrick's full-back, missed a high-flying ball, and the fast Auckland forwards, following up well, were rewarded by Barker scoring after Pratt had made a good opening. Blundcll converted. St. Patrick's College afterwards attacked spasmodically, but their efforts lacked fire. Beaton broke away near halfway and play was carried to Auckland territory where Olsen was penalised for off-side play. Fuller made a fine attempt to goal, but tho wind diverted the ball. Auckland again assumed tho offensive, but St. Patrick's Colleeo set up a good defence. M'Carthy and.Burns in particular. The remainder of the spell continued in St. Patrick's territory, but nothing of importance eventuated. Tho final score was:—Grammar School, 8 points; St. Patrick's College, 5 points. Mr. T. A. Jones was reforee.
