(From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, August 28. ' Jlr. Alf. Snowball, who has been secretary of the Y.M.C.A. at Jlasterton for teveral ye-irs, left for Dannevirko to-day. At the meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Bible Class yesterday Jlr. Snowball was presented with a set of books. . Tho Rev. A. J. Searaer, of Petone, is at present cenducting a mission in this town. Ho delivers a lecture this evening on "The Humour and Pathos of Jlodern Maori Lift." Tho Jlasterton dairy factory and the creamcrv at Te Rangitumau are to bo opened for the ■ season on Wednesday next. It is expected that the supply of milk this year will bo fully up to tho average, though the early start will mean a closing down before tho V-snal time ta the end of the year. Tho friends ol Mr. C. A. Poulsen, journalist, who was recently appointed to the position of chief reporter on the staff of tho "Jlanawatu Evenmg Standard," will be pleased to know that he is making; a speedy recovery from a somewhat serirus illness. One small farmer icar Jfaslerton reports 125 per cent, of lambs this season. Reports from round the district indicate a likelihiod of high pcictntages should the weather not become too cold. Eighty-one thousand trout fry from the Jlasterton fish hatcheries aro to be liberated in tho streams of Hawke's Bay.this season. . ~,,.! Jlr. J. R. Jl'Kcnzic presided at the annual meeting of the Wairaran-i. Athletic Society on Saturday last. The annual report was read and adopted. Regret was expressed at the number of protests and objections that had been dealt with during the year. The work of the secretary caoie in for favourable comment, and a bonus of .£lO 10s. was granted him for his past year's services. At the annual meeting of the Jtosterton Co-operative Dairv Company on Saturday last, Jlessrs. J. C. Ewington. W. R. Bovd, R. Wilton, and C. R. Wall were elected directors. There wero seven candidates for the four vacancies. A voto of thanks was passed to the chairman of directors (Jlr. J. C. Ewington) and the secretary (Jtr. It. Brown) fcr their services during the year. At a subsequent meeting of directors Jfr. Ewington was unanimously re-elected chairman of directors for the ensuing year. The nc-vs of tho escapo of Powelka caused considerable interest hero to-day. The local police are keeping a vigilant look-out for the escapee. Jlr. J. C. Bidwill will be the only representative of the Wairarapa Golf Club at the Jlanawatu tournament, which opens to-rtorrow. Local cricketers are complaining at a proposal to plav a reven-aside football match on the local Park Oval. It is claimed that football at this season' of the year will destroy the pitches for cricket.
