HIS EXCELLENCY'S INITIATION. ... His Excellency Lord Islington was initialed a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters yesterday afternoon. Delegates wore present .it the Court from all parts of tlie Dominion. The ollicciß of the Court Royal Northland (No - . S7SI) opened the meeting, and various visiting brethren conducted the ceremony of initiation. After the initiation, a hearty woleomo to the Court w.ia accorded his Exctllencj. Lust eveninj at the Burlington Cafo (Willis Street), his Excellency was tendered a complimentary tuppor. The toast of the "Visiting Representatives", was proposed by Dro. D. A, W. "b.c'.l!. Bro. Shcat (Canterbury United Lod S f), D.T. Kio. Slitchbury (Auckland), and Bro. Candy (Mastorton) rosponded. Bro. K. Darlow. D.C.U. (Auckland District), proposed Iho Uiast of "Our newly initiated Biu, His Excellency Lord Islington." The speaker said that, they understood (hat his Excellency had had experience of friendly society work in England, ami (hoy looked to help and advice from him in the future. . In replying, his Excellency expressed his pleasure at having boon initialed to the Order and his appreciation of the kind remarks regarding himself. Ho further appreciated the fact that brothers had come long distances to bo present at his initiation. The gathering would givo him an opportunity of coming into touch with many of those who were in tho various branches of industry in tho Dominion. (Applause,) Although he mi.ilit bo described as tho youngest Forostcr in the Order he was by no moans a novice in connection with Friendly Society work. For the past 20 years he hud been connected with many of the Friendly Im>cieties in England and had been chairman of the Executive Board of Administration of "lie of them in the Wes-t of England. ITo alluded to some of tho outstanding advantages of the Friendly Societies. He also made a few romarks upon financial matters suggest ing that tho wider the field of the fund into which members placed their contributions, the sounder thp fund would be. Tlierc would bo a time, for instance, when tho Wellington district would find it advantageous lo induce the various Courts to place their funds into one common fund. (Applause.) "Kindred Sooietiee" was also proposed and honoured.
