A statutory meeting was held at Johnsonville on Wednesday evening to consider the loan proposals of the'-Town Board, which are as follow.—(1) To borrow the sum of ,£3500 for' the purpose of purchasing a Dβ .Laitte petrol gas plant for the lighting of the town, together with the materials and fittings, and land required for the scheme; and (2) to borrow .£BOO for the purchase or acquisition of land and tho erection of board offices.-
The chairman (Mr. W. L. Thompson) outlined the proposals, and gave particulars of tho proposed system, which, he said, in Waipukurau was giving every satisfaction, both for lighting and cooking. There year by year a profit was being made. The gas was being sold at ss. ijsr 1000 feet for lighting, with a reduction of 4s. 6d. when over 5000 feo-t were consumed. Thoro .was,no reason -as had been proved by the demonstration—why the gas could not he supplied at-just as cheap rates at Johnsonrillc. The speaker estimated that, including all capital charges, the cost would, in the event of a. schenio being adopted, be only 4d. per hour. Mr. Thompson moved that the poll be taken for a loan of <£350 D to install the scheme. : ' ' , ■
