Although no butter was imported from Australia lost week, a shipment, of ,105 boxes of margarine, came, 'to hand, 25 boxes being for Wellington and .80 for Lyitelton. "The doi-ference was by far the best he had ever attended. The sympathy between fanners was stronger than he had before wituessed. The order paper was the biggest on record, and it showed one of hvo things—either that the farmers were waking up to the necessity of asserting themselves or that they were getting more discontented."—Extracts from the report of .Mr. J. It was reported at the last meeting of the and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society that it was expected that the" l;alaucc-sl;eet of tho ploughing match .would show a small credit,. It. was resolved.that a gold medal, in addition to the money prize, should be given by the scciety' to the winner of the open event next year, as the. champion ploughman. Various suggestions w.cre made for the.' perfecting of tho match, and it is possible, tho date, may be altered to early iu July, and that a charge of Is. will possibly be made at the gate. The meeting also decided that t)y> horse parade is to be held on the satiety's show grounds on the last Saturday iu. September.

Tho dry weather last season almost completely wiped out the ordinary grass feed, and tho autumn rains came too late for much growth before' tho winter' frosts set in, s.o that' tho proyisipn of feed for later winter and 'early spring was' made an' absolute necessity. It was all the more needed because mangolds had not done too well. As .we haw now- had' three pretty dry summers, the milking people have become alire' to the fact that they must supplement their grasi by some other means. -
