THE BALLANCE DAIRY CO.
. ANNUAL REPORT. The sixteenth annual report of the Ballancp. Co-operative Dairy Company, which is- to be prcsontsd ul. the meeting oir August 28, 'congratulates momlicr.s ou' p prosperous season, taking into consiuoraf ion tlm dvyiwss ol" the lattor half ol the period., Considering past; experithe directors thought it. advisable to ship the. output Home on opeu consigunwuL and ?ent. the butter'* through two different, firms-as-in-the* previous season; Contrary to expectation?, the Home market has not been maintained at the.high level of last year, owing principally* to the greatly increased importations from Australia and Siberia, and lavge quantities held in cool stores. The output has .i«i?t equalled that of last year; which is satisfactory when the falling away of supply since January, owing to drought, is considered. As in past seasons, the butter has graded well for export, but reports from the Home end have been in several instapc.es that, the butter has not. opened up so ivell as might, have been expected from the grading reports. As usual, , more is heard of these sort of complaints on a falling market than in years when hotter prices prevail. It is greatly to be desired in the interests of the industry that the Department of Agriculture will endeavour to discover the reason of the falling away in qualify of butters that, gride high.at time of shipment; Advances have been made on butteT-fat supplied at Is. for June, lid. for May, July, and August, IOJd. September and October, and 10d. November to April, inclusive. The surplus of .£llß9. the directors propose to allocate as fol-lows:—-To pay a dividend of 6 per cent, on paid-up capital, and write the balance off for depreciation. During the season several new separators were • installed, and automatic weighing machines were placwl in t.he creameries. Various other additions to plant and alterations to building? were effected, a largo portion of which expense. has been charged to upkeep. Indications for the coming season are that' there will be a good demand for butter; fjtocks are' practically cleared, and the lower range of prices last season has brought butter into greater. public request. .. ■ The profit and loss account shows butter sales .051,994 lEs., and butter, in baud. lis. 7d. Advances ov. butter-fat supplied totalled. .eiG.Sal Ss. 2d.
