Mr. ,Yv. F. IJassoy, Leader of tho Heform Party, lias been invited to address ii public meeting. at Levin, and has promised to do so before the end of the session. At ameeting of the Otago University Council yesterday nUcrnoon Dr. John Kenneth Harold Inglis, Professor' of Chemistry in University College, Heading. England, was appointed Professor* of Chemistry in Oingo University in secession to l)r. Black. Dr. Inglis was born in Christchurch in 1877, and obtained the decrees of B.Sc. and M.A. at Canterbury College. lie left New Zealand in 1808, and subsequently studied in Edinburgh, Leipzig, and London. Ho secured the degree of Doctor nf Science in Edinburgh in 19UG. Dr. Inglis, who is unmarried, has been head of the chemical department at Heading for the last five .wars. There were 31 applicants.—Press Association. Tho Hcv. Andrew llardie died recently, in his 711 th year, at East Malvern (Victoria). He was one of tho best-known of the earlier Victorian Presbyterian ministers. Mr. L. 31. Isitt, ALP. for Christchureh North, will probably be sworn in to-day, and take his seat in Parliament. Messrs. B. .T. Dolan and H. J. Ferguson, principals in the legal firm of 'Dolan and Ferguson, Napier, arrived in Wellington from Westport by the Mapourika on Saturday, and proceeded to Napier yesterday morning. A testimonial to Mr. W. 11. Judkins, who formerly took a prominent part in the No-License movement in New Zealand, is being raised iu Melbourne. Up to August 12 the.amount raised was nearly •£SOO.
