A record poll is expected throughout Canada.
Mr. Oliver, Minister for tho Interior, was repudiated by tho Liberals at Edmonton when ho offered to contest the constituency again. Mr. A. C. Rutherford, ox-Premier of Alberta, has been nominated against him. Mr. Oliver was recently involved in am alleged scandal in connection with the sale- of lands.
SIR W. LAURIER TO RETIRE. Ottawa, August 18. Speaking at Three Rivers, Quebec, in the course of the election campaign, tho Canadian Prime ,MinisUr, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, forecasted his probable early retirement. Tho Premier asked what political life now offered. For twenty years ho had not known what rest meant. His opponents might defeat him, but they could not take away tho love of those who had worked with him, nor tho prosperity that Canada had enjoyed under fifteen years of Liberal Administration. 4
