MEN'S BROTHERHOOD.
FIRST ANNIVERSARY. The first anniversary of the Wellington City Moil , :; Brotherhood will I;c celebrated on Sunday aftoniuon at 3 p.m. in Iho Now Theatre, MamiMs Street. A specially Rood programme lias been provided, ami everything promises woll for a "pleasant Sunday afternoon," to which all are welcomed. The Mnyov of Wellington will occupy the chair, and Messrs. Fisher, Luke, M'Laren, and Wright will also lx> present. Tho speakers for iho afternoon aro Chief l'.O. Welsh, of 11.M.5. Challenger, and Mr. }l. 0. Blamiros. A special feature will be the selections piven by iho soloists of thn Sousa Hand party, Miss Virginia Hoot (soprano) and Miss Nicoline Zedelov (violinist), who have kindly offered their assistance in view of tho special object of tho gathering. Admission will be fre-e, but a collection will be taken up on bor half of the Sister of the Poor, to b» associated shortly with the work of tho Brotherhood and tho Central Mission Tho annual report states that tho Brotherhood has been in existence twelve months, and meetings have been regularly held on a Sunday afternoon at the King's Thoatre, and latterly at tho Druids' Hull and New Theatre. Tho movement is spreading in Xcw Zealand, and recently Christchurch, Napier, and Wanganui havo bean added to the list of cities where tho organisation is founded. The Brotherhood appeals to all classes, and is as broad as humanity; it is nonpolitical, its members including men of all shades of political colour, and uiiscctiirian in its working. While its roots nro fastened in the Central Mission, its
branches'are spread but, so that'ali who have a desire to help their fellowmcn may corns under its shade, whatever creed they may hold. Tho executive includes men of varying religious creeds, but they seek a new city, "wherein dwclleth righteousness," and desire to recognise tho placo of practical religion in every department of life. The best thanks of the Brotherhood are duo to the speakers who havo addressed the meetings during the year, including Sir Robert Stout, K.C.M.G., Sir J. G. Findlay, lion. G. Fowlds, Hon. C. M. Luke, Messrs. R. A. Wright, D. M'La-ren, F. SI. B. Fisher, G. Laurenson. H. G. Ell, M.P.'s, also Messrs. Hwang, K. Tregear, A. B. Thomson, J. W. Povnlon, E. Arnold, W. S. Bedford, J. Black, Dr. M'Arthur, Dr. Platfs-MiHs, Professor Kastcrfield, Archdeacon Harper, the Revs. Crowes, Smith, and Dan-son. The members and attendants, havo enjoyed and profited very greatly by tho meetings, tho majority of which reached a von - high standard of excellence. During tio year x book club has been formed, and is working satisfactorily—standard literary works are placed within reach of tho poorest. Charitable work has bsen carried on, and members havo found, in many cases, Hio pleasure of the giver in satisfactory results following the benefactions. Through the kindness of sympathisers, tho Brotherhood now possesses threo complete ssts of nursing apparatus for use in , cases of sickness, and special thanks arc due to Sir. Dowdell for his energy in procuring these. Now the Brotherhood is set upon securing an. energetic young lady to co-operate in deaconess nursing anil visiting work with the Central Mission Management Committee. ' —
