THAT "DEAD END."-A SUGGESTION.
Sir, —Your correspondent "Sylvius" in Saturday's issue facetiously describes the grass-grown Te Aro railway station and its desolate neighbour, the old dock site, as "Wellington's dead end." Many true things' are said in jest. Might not the site be put to a veritable good use, by converting it into a "dead-end" for a dock siding, or shunting-yard for traffic in transit between the railway and the steamers berthing on tho Te Aro side of the main tee, whilst the similar traffic to and from '• the vessels lying on the Thorndon side of the' main entranco might, be collected (or delivered) and passed on to the through Jervois Quay line at some convenient point on that side of the Harbour Board s precincts? . That municipal markets of tho future might be located in the Te Aro area, and thus be connected with the coasting service for the delivery of market supplies direct at tha sellers' stalls, and other useful objects at. Ihat end of the town. There would still be room for an extension to Miramar, and being run through or alongside the Aro depot. Town-planning is'not necessarily confined to embellishments. , Ought not tho commercial needs of the future bo included and plotted out now?—l am, etc., ADVANCE WELLIXGTOX.
