HANDLING AT HOME.

NEW ZEALAND MEAT. That there is not unanimity amongst moat exporters as to the extent of the deleterious effects of the handling of carcasses at tho Loudon end was shown by some remarks in tho course of an address by the chairman (Mr. W. G. Foster) at the Wellington M«it Export Company's annual meeting "At various meetings," said Mr. Foster, "a great deal has been said, about the damage sustained. So far as my investigations, when in England, are concerned, I did not find matters in quite so serious a condition, but had I found them as bad as .was represented by Dr. Chappie and Mr. Lysnar, I should* have considered it injudicious to publish the full measure of the mischief, lest advantage were taken to decry our meat—as a matter of fact, this was done. "But, after all, I think the widclvrecognised good quality of Now Zealand meats reudered attacks abortive." (Hear, hear.) Indigestion may show itself bv pigs failing in flesh, loss of appetite, roughness of hair, scaliness of skin, and teeth becoming black. The last condition is often thought to be'the cause, rather than the effect. It is together with the others, but an evidence of injudicious feeding.
