SOCIALIST CANDIDATES. At a meeting of the Socialist party lipid last evening, it was decided that Mr. Kobcrt Ho'gg, of Paparangi, Johnsonville, should contest the Wellington South seat, and Mr. Prank Freemah should oontest the Wellington Suburbs sent. He claimed independence to support or oppose measures as his principles directed, and said as Ions; as the Ward Administration did what ho thought was right he would support it.' He declared himself a strong freeholder. He was accorded a hearty Vote of thanks."
DUNEDIX NORTH. Dunedin, August 16. Mr. Loudon will contest Dunedin North in tho Liberal interest. Mr. John Brodie, Mayor of Mmmmr, and for'six years a member of the Miramax Borough Council, has been asked to contest ono of tho city seats at .the coming general elections. Ho could give no definite answor at once, bat has proinised to think tho matter over. Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, Mayor of Tetonc and a member of the Wellington Harbour Board, has dclinit'ely decided to stand for tbt) Hutfc seat 'at tho general elections as an Independent. Mr. T. M Wilford (Government), and Mr. 11. w' Short (Opposition) are also candidates for the seat.
