FOOTBALL.
THE ASSOCIATION GAME. AV.F.A. COMMITTEE MEETING. Tho usual meeting of the Wellington Football Association was held last evening, Mr. 11. N. Holmes presiding. It was decided that the Institute Fifth Division team should bo awarded the match played against Ramblers! the latter team having played a boy over ape. Wadestown, having won tho second division, nnd Johnstinvillo the third division championships, it was decide! to commence tho challenge cup and Henderson memorial cup matches on Sat unlay, August 19. Tho first division matches will bo continued as usual. August 20 was the dato decided on for Auckland fourth division representatives to meet Wellington. Tho match will be played on the Basin Reserve, and tho secretary was instructed to write'to the City Council asking permission bo chargo on that date. An. offer was accepted from tho Y.M.C.A. Boys' Club to entertain the visitors on tho night of the match; A letter is to b© sent to the Auckland Association thanking them for the hospitality extended to the fourth division representative* on their recent visit to the northern city. Tho. use of Seatoun Park was granted to representatives of the rnrjoni shipping companies in Wellington for their annual mutch, Union Co. v. combined team, on heptembsr 2. Mr, A. E. Duncan was accorded a vote ot thanks for his donation of a cup for tho sixth division championship. A letter was received from the secretary of tho N.Z.F.A. which stated that Wellington s challenge for tho Brown Shield was next in order, It was decided that the secretary bo instructed to write tho Canterbury Association and fix a date. Owing to several of the players who had been chosen to represent Wellington in a match against Marlborough being unable to mako the trip, it was decided to abandon tho tour. Tho secretary of the N.Z.F.A.. wrote stating that it hod come to the council's knowledge that betting was being indulged in vary freely in connection with the gania in Wellington. Several of tho members spoko strongly on this matter, and'it was eventually decided that all secretaries of clubs bo notified of tho fact, and also that drastic measures would bo taken wherever of. fenders were discovered. >> .Mr. A. E. Wells, referee in the Eamb-lcrs-Y.M.C.A. match, played last Saturday, reported having ordered a player oil' tho lield for disputing his decisions. , The Y.M.CA..CIub forwarded a letter in explanation, and the player in question attended. It was decided to caution the offender.
t Mr. 11. N. Holmes reported that negotiations for the purchase of the ground ;it Kilbirnic' South hod been-completed, tho price paid being ,£9OO. A strong committee was formed to float a company (particulars of which have already appeared), aud a meeting of supporters and players is to be held in tho Y.M.C.A. buildings on September 11. Tho object of tho meeting will be to inaugurate a campaign to enlist shareholders in the new company. SATURDAY'S GAMES.
