CONFERENCE SITS IN LONDON. RAILWAYMEN TO BE CALLED IN. London, August 15. Askwith (of the Board of Trade), and tho large employers'in the chief trades, with leading representatives of Labour, including Mr. Thomas, Burt (M.P. for Morpeth), and Mr. Bowerman (Deptford). Afterwards it was announced thai a conference had been arranged to be held at tho Board of Trade on Thursday with representatives of the men employed in Tarious branches of railway work. GLASGOW STRIKE COLLAPSES. MEN IN SULLEN MOOD. London, August 15. The tramway strike at Glasgow has colInpsed.

Many of tho strikers will not be reinstated. Eighty persons have been arrested for rioting. The Corporation Committee, after a. lively meeting, resolved to leave tho settlement of tho matter in tho hands of tho tramway managers. A mass meeting of tho strikers received tho decision with hostility. They will seek a Board of Trado arbitration.

SITUATION IN LONDON. AN IMPROVEMENT. London, August 15. Mr. Churchill, Home Secretary, announced iu the House of Commons that the situation in London had improved. All sections of dock employoes aro returning to work. It is believed that this transport workors have realised the advantages thoy have already secured, and tho "folly of jeopardising them. Work has been resumed at Paddington Station. The Port of London Authority has offered to reinstate the strikers on probation.
