EXCITEMENT OVER BY-ELECTbONS. By 'ItlcEraDii— Vmsi Association—Cocrrluht Sydney, August IG. Both sides are confident of winning today's by-elections at Mudgeo and Liverpool Plans. The campaign has been conducted with extreme vigour and considerable bifcternoss. It will be a.fight to the finish. Labour's chance of winning ono, if not both seats, is probably the better.

A NECK AND NECK RACE. (Rec. August 17, 0.55 a.m.) Sydney, August 16. Thero is tremendous excitement over tho by-elections. Although tho totals to hand nro almost equal to the numbers polled at general elections, it is impossible to say that either candidate in either electorate has a material advantage over the other. In each case the Labour candidate- has a slight lead—at Liverpool Plains by 61, and at Mudgeo by HO. The positions can be easily reversed.
