CROWN LAND SECTIONS
SALE AND LEASE. (From Our O-.vny 1 Correspondent.) Mr. James Mackenzie, Commissioner of Crown. Lnuds, has during tho past week been holding sales for cash of village settlement sections in tho various townships along the Main Tnink lino. Tbo bidding was very keen in Wainiarino, liauriimi, OwhnngH, Kukahi, and Mnmimii, but in the more southerly townships tho demnnd for cash lands was.very meagre. Generally speaking the purchasers were genuine settlers, farmers out-back wishing to obtain holding paddocks; y- —mill hands and railway employcee or miK proprietors who bought sections intending doubtless U> erect cottages for their men. In ninny cases, however, tho speculator was in evidence ami secured good slices of what was offered. These sales have home to many that the freehold is not a poor man's tenure, nnd we frequently heard tho wish expressed that other sections would bo brought out later under the leasehold. It is thought that tho upset prices at Horopito, liangataun, and Ohakuno were too high. It is probable that further areas of land at Waimarino, Rniirimu, and Owhango will soon be surveyed and offered for sale. We print in full the particulars of the ealrs. The leases are subject to confirmation by the board. KAKGATAUA. Upset Price Lot. Blk. price, paid. '£ £ 2 S, Ja., J. Ives 75 75 7 4, 3a., G. Tyler . 40 42 1 7, Ja., Ch.
