LOWER HUTT COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt 'Brri-ongh Council was held last evening. There were present:—The Mayor (Mr. !.- P. Bunny), and Councillors Clendon. Roots, Hobbs, Stephenson, Kempthorne, Hodgins, Hawthorn, and Knight. Tho Hntt l'irn BrisaiU asked when they mieht expect delivery of the hesereei, which hail liecn promised last year. They further intimated that Ibe Wellington City Council had a Teel for sale. The clerk was instructed to. make inquiries regarding purchase of the latler. The Wellington .Education Board drew attention to the wet statu of the ground at the King's Ife.-id School, and asked if the council would take steps to clear one cf the drains. Engineer to report to Works Committee. The Ynluer-Cieronil advised that the rateable totals of the borough are:— Capital value. -£1.-TiI,SOS; unimproved value, value of improvements, JCM(,SSI The following recommendations from the Works Committee were approved:I'hat a further instalment of J:'2OOD beapplied for, t<; be paid on October 1, 1911; tho llutt Hockey Club to bo asked what. I hey would bo prepared to pay for the use" of the recreation ground next year; that the recommendation of the engineer in regard to -installing boilers 'at the sanitary depot bo given effect to; lamps between Market Street and belWue Kuad to bo equally distanced; Councillors Hobbs, Ckudon, and Knight to be appointed a committee to purchase a horse for the recreation ground; that a concrete roller be purchased for rolling wickets on the recreation ground. If, was resolved that Section .1 of the eastern drainage be dons by day labour, and that owners be given two months in which to connect with Section 2. The estimated ccst of Section 3 would he as follows-.--Material, lis. 3d.; labour, JEISI3 IS*. The engineer reported that 33t chains of niu. pipes had been laid in Section 2 of (lie eastern drainage works.- Comparisons with the estimate, as far as tho work had gone, showed that the actual labour had cost .£B2O !)s. lid., and the estimate had been- c£S56 3s. 2d. The metal-crush-er had bwn removed to the riverbed, mid, up to date. 101 yards hud been carted to the Main Rood. Good progress was being made with Wobnrn Road dedication. Five connections have been made with the water-service durirg the month, and 284 permits under the drainage and sanitary by-laws had been issued. The offer of the. Belmont Quarry Company to supply metal at. ss. lOd. per'yard was declined.
