• 0 SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT TE AWAMUTU. (Bj Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, August 10. A very serious accident occurred at Tc Awninutu yesterday. Mr. AV. J. liauby, a fanner of Ohaupo, was driving in a light trap between To Aivamutu and Kawa when the horse became unmanageable, kicked the front board away, and struck liiinbj- on .the face. Both his eves were severely injured, the bridge of his noso was broken, and the face much bruised. It was found necessary to remove the right eye and to stitch the left, and tho injuries to the latter are so serious that it is feared that it will also have to bo removed. In any case the injured mail will be totally blind. CHILD FATALLY SCALDED. Ashburton, August 11. An accident fliat ended fatally occurred at Anama on Wednesday evening. Tho infant san of Robert Lambio upset a teapot of boiling tea over his body, and died this morning as a result of tlie shock and scalding. A verdict was returned accordingly at the inquest held subsequently. SLIPPED OFF CAR. A man, named James Clark, slipped oft' a tram in Lambton Quav yesterday, and sustained an injury to liis shoulder, necessitating his removal to tho Hospital. TRIPPED ON FOOTPATH. Mrs. Johnson, a resident of 13 AbplSmith Street, tripped oil the footpath in Tory Street yesterday, and, failing heavily, received a severe cut over the face. She was taken to tho Hospital, FOUND IN A CREEK. Waihi, August 10. Robert Simms, (lie local librarian, was found drowned in a shallow creek running through the town. He was seen alive two hours prior to the discovery of the body. Deceased left a noto asking a friend to open the library. Deceased was aged 70, and had lately been in poor health. DIED IN HIS BUNK. Grcymouth, August 10. James Swcctland, a fireman ou the Putiki, aged 3L\ was found dead in his bunk at 7.45 this morning. Deceased joined the steamer at Lyttolton on August 2. A prohibition order was issued against him there, but ho was drinking heavily horc yesterday. BODY FOUND. Auckland, August 10. A dead body found in some scrub, with a lysol bottle alongside, has been identified as that of Daniel Condon, a porter at the Hospital, aged 50 years. He had been missing for two months. SYEIAN FALLS OFF TEAIN. Invercargill, August 10. A Syrian hawker, Yusif Suffra, aged sixty, fell from a train at Makarewa last night and sustained a fracture of the skull and other injuries, which resulted in his death in the hospital to-day. APTEE ILL-HEALTH. Napier, August 19. A married woman named Fanny Harris, aged U, the wife of Thomas Harris, lineman, was found dead in a quarry near hcv rcsidenco early this morning. Deceased had suffered from ill-health for a considerable time, and last Week attempted suicide by drinking a match-head solution".
