TRADE WITH CANADA.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.! Auckland, August 11. Evidence -is -now forthcoming thai, through tie inauguration of the new Vancouver mail service. New Zealand will soon be able to develop a profitable trade with Western Canada, especially iu frozen meat and other-produce. Lust summer a visit v>;as paid to New Zealand by Mr. J. B. Miller, representative, of Patrick Burns and Co., Ltd., with a-'view to-ascertaining tho possibilities of purchasing New Zealand mutton for his firm, who have largo stores at Prince Rupert, British Columbia—the new torminus- of the trans-Continental .Railway on tlio Pacific coast. It is interesting to note that the- firm are the largest meat distributors in Canada, _ having contracts for supplying the camps on. the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway tracks. - ->• i Mr. Miller, -when leaving .New;Zealarid on his' return to Canada,;--took': several samples of. New Zealand '-mutton with him, and he now advises Mr?-" W. A. Beddoo,. tho Canadian Trade .-Commissioner, that Mr. Burns was. greatly pleased with the fiuality of the samples of New Zealand mutton, and adds:—"l do riot consider that there is any doubt that New Zealand mutton will-find a place in the market hero. I do not anticipate any shipments being made as soon as the service is inaugurated, but, no doubt, arrangements will be made for sample ship,regular;_frozen mutton season "for "us'gets under~way, .which is about December:' Our company; is now building a very large addition to its Vancouver cold storago, and is likely to bo interested in handling butter in a large way within a year when, no doubt, the, quality of the New Zealand article will induce them to place 6ome orders there."
