This morning a big squad marched to tho Ilokowhitu range, where firing and other exercises were indulged in. On tho Show Grounds all was bustle and life, particularly this afternoon, when _ .. MajorGeneral Godley visited the camp. Last night some fifty territorials were examined by Surgeon-Major Dr. O'Brien, and tho examination of tho Palmerston contingent will be concluded next week. The Palmerston Egg Circle received its first consignment yesterday, about thirty members sending in eggs. It is expected that these will lealiso from Is. Id. to Is. 2d. in Wellington. Tho Auditor-General lias attached a tog to the Fire Board's balance-sheet, disallowing tho payment of X 7 17s. Gd. for "opening of new station," as being without authority of law. Mr. J. Goring Johnston has been elected, unopposed, to the position of president of tho Manawatu liacing Club, Mr. C. Louisson treasurer, and Mr. J. H. P. Strang and Dr. C. 'Wilson vice-presi-dents. For tho five vacancies on tho committee, Messrs. AV. Randall. S. R. Lancaster, E. L. Broad, E. 'Wood. L. A. Abraham, D. A. M'Hardy, 11. M. Simnionds, and Dr. O'Brien have been nominated. The retiring president (Mr. E. S. Abraham) will hold a seat on the committee as a trustee. ' •, j
