LAWN TENNIS.
THE AMERICAN'TEAM FOR 1 DAVIS CUP. "American Lawn Tennis" states:—Despite sensational and entirely erroneous stories published last month in many ot the daily newspapers, there is every reason to believe that America will bo ablo to dispatch, to Australasia next fall a representative team in quest of the Davis Cup. This'hopeful feeling was reflected in tho May 15 issuo of "American Lawn Tennis," and since then no change has occurred to alter the situation. It is tho intention to send the team direct to the Antipodes, thero to meet England in the tie, which, it seems probable, will bo played in Australia. In an interview this week with 'Robert D. Wrenn, of tho Davis Cup Committee of the U.S.L.T.A., assuranco was given that, while no names could be made pub.ic at this earlv day, confidence was felt that a team that would be' thoroughly representative would bo obtained. The situation is markedly different from the one that existed in. 1910, for at no stago then was tho committee in mow than a hopeful frame of.mind. Now, however, tho obstacles that have long stood in the way of getting together a strong, if not the strongest possible, team'have been overcome, and unless some unexpected happening occurs between now and October, it is believed thatsuch a team will then be on its way to the "down under" country.
