In a place full of historic memories at Te Awamutu (writes our travelling airrespondent) there still stands the old mission station, the birthplace of tho late Sir Eldon Gorst, who died under the load of humanitarian government in Egypt Built about 73 years ago, ('he old place nestles, bungalow fashion, in a trim garden, and ir. approached through an avenue of pines where, nearly half a century ago, Sir John (then Mr.) Gorst had installed his newspaper, which spoko defiance at the Kingito organ until summarily dealt with by the followers of Rewa Majiiatoto. Over the road lies tho Anglican Church, with its tablets and graves of tho honoured dead, who foil irithe fights against -savagery and cannibalism. The room in tho mission station where Sir Eldon was born is still extant, and was shown to Miss Gorst sonao years ago when she visited the place with her father, but the two. end compartment's where her father taught some of tho first principles of morality and good living t<s fifty or sixty native scholars, have long been removed—some say for stable purposes.
