UNSATISFACTORY FRUIT SHIPMENT.
Advices from the Agent-General respecting the shipment of 16,735 cast's of Victorian fruit by the E.M.S. Mooltan, which was sold at Covent Garden on .lime 10, 20. and 21," have been forwarded to the fruit inspection branch of the Melbourne Agricultural Department. It was stated that, according to the report of Inspector Davies, there was a glut of apples on the market, and trade was very slow. Tha fruit, which had been carried in tern-, perutures of from 3Sdeg. to 40dcg., -was over-ripo and wasty. Its' condition caused prices to rulo very low, the average price being ss. Gd. a case. .No samples'of merit were.sold, the highest price realised toing 9s. a case for a few gr.een Cleopatras. Pears were also in an unsatisfactory condition, and realised very low prices.
