MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent,) Mastcrton, August 0. The Carterton County Council has endorsed the resolution passed by tho Kiwitea County Council relative to the "cumbersome, expensive, and unfair method" of electing district members of Harbour Boards, and has decided to ask Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.P., to do his best to secure a reversion to tho old scheme.
Eight teams have entered for Hie fiveaside hockey .tournament which is to be played at Carterton to-morrow. Mr. B. J. Dagg, of Mastert'on, has been appointed to tho council of the Clydepdale Horse Society, which was formed in Duuedin last week. 'In the competitions held by the Mauriceville Rillo Club during tho past season, Mr. R. !•'. Wiltou was particularly successful, being hrst iu tho aggregate for the Dagg Shield, Maunscll Cup, and Knmmer Gold Medal. The two latter Vrophies havo to be won on. the aggregate for two years. The fifth "shoot" for tho Blighting Cup in connection with (ho Morris-tube Club took place last evening. In I'hoA class 11. Perry was top scorer and, ii#.the B class U. E. Jones. A triangular match is to be fired at. Mauriccvillc on Monday evening next. At .1 meeting of the general committee formed to suitably recognise the work of the A. and P. Association in providing such an excellent showground and park for the town at Solwny. il was decided that a picnic, with .-/'iHic and horse events, be held towards tlin end of September. Various sub-committees w>ro set up Co make the arrangements. The Rev. A. T. Thompson, .if Mastorten. lie.s given notice to move at the next meeting of the Wellington Presbytery that a petition lie received from Wairarapa members nf the church, praying for the formation of a Wn.irarap:i Presbytery, At a nipeling of the Ocneral Committee of Hie Maslerlon A. am! P. Association on Saturday next, various sub-commitiees for the ensuing year will bo set up. The annual tea and Congregational nicotine; in connection with Knox Church is to be held to-morrow evening.
