SUBURBAN DRAINAGE.
.£30,000 AVAILABLE FOR WORKS. A deputation of suburban residents (Mar.TJnni district) interviewed the Mavor of Wellington (Mr. T. 31. Wilford, M.'P.) yesterday; and submitted representations with regard to the anxiety of tlie suburb that, the drainage works 'should be. completed as soon as possible: Mr. W. H. Morv.ih, who introduced the deputation, pointed out that the district was becoming thickly populated—he instated tlw fact that the attendance at. tho local school was now some Joo—and the drainage prob-. lem was now an urgent one. . The Mayor, in reply, stated that the balance of the money left over from the original ,£IOO,OOO lon.u—about ,£30,000— would be devoted to the drainage, of Wadosbwn. Xorthlnnd. and Mir'amar. The drainage of Warlestown. from its situation, presented certain difficulties, and an estimate of Ihe cost was being prepared by the engineer. It might br> necessary to construct a special sewerago system for that suburb. The drainage of Maranui. from a line drawn from the loc.il school to Onopii Read, ivouhl require the. installation of a Shone ejector system; it might be possible, however, to commence. Hie drainage works for that, portion of Ihe district south of this line. It was hoped to make a start as soon as possible, but the council would require (r> have the details of the Wade.-town work before it before mapping out a, ■clieine of work. That there wns left over from Ihe original loan such a ?;itisfactory balance was. a credit lo the Cit'v Engineer (Mr. W. 11. Morton).
